Colours of Summer brings together two generations of artists, celebrating the energy, warmth and vibrant colours of summer.

Anne Hickmott studied Graphic Design and Photography at the Royal College of Art (1955-58). After leaving a long career teaching photography in 1992, she continued developing her own work as an exhibiting artist, specialising in lino-cut and etching mediums. She was artist in residence at Kew Gardens. Her colourful interpretations of flowers and landscapes evoke long sun-filled summers in the UK and New Zealand.

Martin Ireland has been painting landscapes of the Thames for many years, drawing on a lifelong connection with the river that began in childhood. His paintings capture the ever-changing skies and dramatic cloud formations of Sussex and Suffolk, as well as the wild, windy days of Summer. His paintings of swimmers recall summers spent at Tooting Bec Lido, where he was artist-in-residence in 2007-08.

Together their work offers two distinctive perspectives on summer- from Anne’s vibrant floral and landscape prints to Martin’s atmospheric paintings of skies, rivers and swimmers.
