Sprout Arts is delighted to announce that we are offering two local artists a residency in our gallery throughout January.

Maddie Rose Hills is an emerging artist whose practice includes painting and film. Following a group residency in Iceland in 2016 her practice focuses on the use of memory to distil the essence of a location into abstract paintings. Her painting @The Long Winding Shores’ was commissioned by British Airways and her work has featured in The Evening Standard and various lifestyle magazines.
Andrea and Maddie will share the gallery space on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and weekends throughout January, when the public are invited to come in and chat to them about their creative process; also look out for talks and workshops for schools and Sprout members.

There will be a Welcome Event on Saturday 11th January from 2pm, a great opportunity for members to meet the artists, and a Closing Event when members can talk to the artists and enjoy viewing a selection of their works produced in response to their time in Sprout, on Saturday 1st February.

A residency provides artists with many opportunities: a chance to change direction, to experiment with or consolidate an idea; no one knows what type of work will emerge and this creates both the challenge and the excitement of a residency.
