Sprout’s Lockdown Challenges

Sprout has put together some artistic challenges to keep our creative juices flowing during these difficult times while the gallery is closed. Please remember to tag us if you are posting your art online so we can enjoy what you are doing - Instagram: sprout_arts_london Twitter: @sproutarts Facebook: Sprout Community Arts and use the hashtag #SproutArtsLockdownChallenge

We also currently have a pop-up window display with work by local artists - do take a look while you’re on your daily exercise along Moyser Road, we hope it brightens your day!

Challenge 1: Recreate Art

Why not try to recreate a painting? We are offering some suggestions but don’t be held back if you have your own favourite artwork you would prefer to recreate!

Take a look at some of the amazing creations already online before you have a go yourself: Getty Museum: #gettychallenge https://mymodernmet.com/recreate-art-history-challenge and #CovidClassics.

Choose any artwork, these are our suggestions:

Bedrooms: Tracy Emin - My Bed; Van Goch - Bedroom in Arles; Fuseli - The Nightmare

PortraitsGilbert & George - Thumbing; Gainsborough - Mr and Mrs Andrews; Rombouts - The Lute Player

Sprout Artists: Lucinda Denning; Karolina Jonc Buczek; Phillippa Egerton

Only use what you have in the house (no photo manipulation), you can dress-up yourself or use items of food, toys or household junk - just use your imagination and have fun!

When you have created and photographed them please share - email them to us and we will post them on the Sprout social media: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Challenge 2: Art on a Postcard

We will be running our Secret Postcard event when things get back to normal, so why not use this time to create a mini-masterpiece to help raise funds for our community gallery? Postcards can be collected outside Sprout in a disinfected box when the weather is suitable, but all you need to do is get any piece of A6 card - which is 148mm x 105mm (4x6 inches ) and then draw, paint, collage, embroider, print etc - all ages and all skills welcome!
We do not know when the exhibition will be taking place but hopefully this summer, so please start sending your work now and if you can’t reach the gallery please put your art in an envelope and post to 74 Moyser Road, London SW16 6SQ
