Valerie Taylor

Training thanks to Adult Education at Folkestone Arts Centre, South Thames College, Morley College and,  most importantly, the St Ives School of Painting where I found my feet.

Best of all I like to work outside, in the landscape, be it amongst Cornwall fields, the Sussex Downs or Romney Marsh.   Also close to my heart is the nude where I find similar organic shapes to landscape.   Life drawing and painting is another joy.

Exhibited with Wandsworth Artists Co-operative, South London Women Artists many Open Exhibitions, Wandsworth Artists' Open House and Sprout Arts.

Painter, Art Therapist and Feltmaker, for many years I have exhibited in England and France. I worked therapeutically with adolescents in a

psychiatric setting and at present work with Dementia patients. My Feltwork has been commissioned by The Shakespeare Globe Theatre production of 'The Merchant of Venice' and MGM's 'A Knight's Tale'. My small London Garden, seen through windows continually delights me at any time of the year. The multimedia works in the exhibition 'Two's Company' are not of any specific time of day or season. They are experiments in colour and mood and I hold dear the struggle between abstract and figurative expression.

It is said that 97% of what we do is through our subconscious thought.

Myrecent work tries to engage with this by allowing the subconscious to take control.

There are objects that occur time and time again, representing certain aspects of my life, although this is through an automatic and spontaneous response to that world. Those objects have meaning, but are open to interpretation. Some of the objects are observed, but most of the conscious thought is represented through composition, colour selection and use of light.

My earlier work has many of these attributes, but focused on the real rather than the subconscious.

I have purposely exhibited work that reflects the changes in my work over many years.
