Dappled Moments

Phillippa Egerton & Roopa Basu
20 - 31 May
Meet the Artists : Tuesday 20 May - 6pm to 8pm
Dappled Moments is a collaborative exhibition by two artists - Phillippa Egerton and Roopa Basu, with distinct styles, united by a shared fascination with fractured glimpses of light, life, and shadow. Through glass, perspex, watercolour, screen prints, linocuts, acrylic, and egg tempera, they capture fleeting reflections and shifting forms found in both natural and urban environments.
The exhibition explores the interplay of light and shadow, evoking the splintered nature of memory and perception. As part of the show, the artists will host a block printing workshop, inviting participants to engage with these themes through hands-on creative exploration.
Phillippa Egerton trained in Mural Design at Chelsea School of Art and a Printmaking MA at Wimbledon so works in a wide variety of mediums and has won prizes for her printmaking. She has had eight solo shows including a show about Climate Change at St Mary’s church, Battle last year and has participated in numerous group shows and has exhibited previously at Sprout. Her political awareness is shown in her dystopian prints featuring toys and her political Cake Heads; she has always done abstract pieces which provides the analytical layer on which other work is based, including her urban scenes.
Roopa Basu is a London-based artist whose multidisciplinary practice spans painting, mixed media, and design. Raised across three continents, her fine art explores themes of light, memory, and belonging. She often uses layered materials to capture fleeting moments that invite reflection on the beauty of transience. With a background in print design and as founder of her design studio Roopadesigns, she brings a strong sense of visual storytelling to her work. Alongside her studio practice, Roopa leads community art projects, producing large-scale murals and installations rooted in her ethos to “think globally, act locally.”
