BIOGRAPHY

I studied painting at Farnham College of Art and ten years later took an MA at Chelsea College of Art, London. My work encompasses paintings both oils on canvas and gouaches on paper,  Some paintings will be of individual figures, some of groups of figures and others are composed of more traditional landscapes.

Colour is a perennial theme in my work, I enjoy playing with the juxtaposition of certain colours, the patterns I create with colour, and the emotional response we have to each colour and hue. I like to incorporate elements of fabrics and costumes both from around the world and from history.

Having grown up in the Wiltshire countryside, natural forms are also a recurring motif.
In tandem with my interest in colour and pattern, people fascinate me and I endeavour to convey a story by using looks and glances between members of a group.

I am as happy painting portraits from life as I am creating figures from my imagination.
Meanwhile the landscapes show another side of my work where light and weather provide the subtleties of feeling within a painting.have been exhibiting for many years and my work is in private collections worldwide.

Some of my largest work is hanging in St Georges Hospital, Tooting (originally Commissioned by the Bolingbroke Hospital Wandsworth). I work in my garden studio (open this October for Wandsworth Artists Open House). I run Art Classes for Adults and Children based in the Furzedown Project ( a local centre for older people),where I also volunteers at the Friday Morning Art Group.
On BBCTV , My paintings feature in all CBBC series of 'The secret life of Boys' enhancing the walls of the farmhouse where the featured family live.
